Communicating Vessels

for water reservoirs & catacombs

Radim Hanousek, František Chaloupka, Ian Mikyska, Kristýna Švihálková, Michal Wróblewski:

Communicating Vessels is a joint work of five composers and performers commissioned by the Exposition of New Music festival. The one-hour acoustic experience is designed for the unique location of a pair of Brno Reservoirs, which visitors will be able to explore acoustically and spatially. The combined containers thematize and celebrate the preservation of substances in different physical states, which have become a matter of course in our everyday life to the extent that we hardly notice them. A glass, a coffee mug, a can or a water bucket go through evolution at a very slow pace, but they form indispensable objects of our lives. A perceiving and thinking person, whose mind can be filled with various contents, is also referred to as a "vessel". As in the case of hydrostatic pressure, it is not the amount of "liquid" that matters in humans, but the depth of the "container"…
